Another Update!

So I am back with yet another update post on how I am doing with my new jaw! It will be 5 months in December!

Numbness:

The only numbness I have is on the right side of my jaw on the outside and its on the jawline with the bone. The inside of my mouth like my gums and parts of my teeth are still very numb as well, which I will probably have to live with for the rest of my life.

Swelling:

I personally thought all the swelling went a while ago, but I was wrong because my face has gone down again and I THINK that is all the swelling gone now.

Sensitivity to bones:

They say it is at least 6 months till the bones are completely fixed, so they are still quite sensitive and there are certain things I stay away from (in college specifically because I do a physical course). Also when I chew certain things like skittles or something that takes a little more strength then other foods, I feel a tingly sensation in my right cheek and the part that my jaw is numb on the jawline on the right side of my jaw, feels weird. If I tense my jaw for a small amount of time, it can really hurt afterwards which is bad because I do this without realising (never on purpose).

Other than that, I live my life as normal and I am still pleased with the results. The only thing is, sometimes I see myself in videos that are taken a little distance from me or photos and my face looks really chubby/swollen like a chipmunk so I don't know why this is, I am used to my face the way it is, but maybe I still look quite swollen to other people?! Haha, I don't care :').

I'll love you and leave you all with that...

I may be back...

But for now...

Goodbye readers xxx

Update...

Hi Guys!

So yeah I decided to do an update on the swelling/numbness and all that jazz since the three months are now up!

Swelling:

So the swelling is pretty much all gone, the only thing is that because my top jaw was brought forwards, my cheeks are more round and puffy anyways because my face isn't long anymore...it's more rounded and circular. So yeah the swelling is all gone in other words!

Numbness:

I literally have hardly any numbness except for the tiniest little spot/line on my chin but I do not even notice it, it doesn't affect my speech or anything so I don't really care haha! Other than that I have little numbness on my gums, but the roof my mouth has all the feeling back so it's great! And no more numb cheeks! I remember during the process, I could only feel my forehead because it was the only part of my face that wasn't affected in the surgery looool!

Pain:

The main discomfort that I receive is when I am yawning and I open my mouth too wide, it still slightly hurts at the back but I think that will go in time because it's only been three months and it's up to 6 months for the bones too heal.

Chewing:

I can pretty much eat anything now which is such a good feeling, I remember a month into the recovery I couldn't even bite into a noodle...sad times but yeah...chewing is fine!

Brushing Teeth:

I was still using a baby tooth brush up until my braces came off so when the three months was nearly up, I was still using one, I also was still using it when I was on holiday...when I came back off holiday I misplaced my baby toothbrush so I used a normal one and it was a weird feeling at first but it was a great experience LOL! And then I found my baby toothbrush a few days later but I don't use it anymore clearly lmao.

Energy:

I can do a whole day at work / college and not be worn out at the end of the day like I used to be when I was still in recovery. I still get tired like I would before the surgery but not worn out and exhausted like I used to be.

Looking back on photos of the old me, I still look like me but it's still hard to remember what I used too look like without looking at a picture. I am so happy with the results and so happy I went through it now and not later!

Before braces:

First day of braces:

Before surgery:

After surgery and swelling had gone down:

Before braces were taken off:

After they were taken off:

Me now:

So there you have it! My journey & my story. I went through a tough time but I got through it and I'm so incredibly happy I did! These are my before's and after's which has taken me a lot to upload these. I still look like me...just happier :)

WEEK 12!!!

DAY 78:

I cannot believe it is the start of the 12th week!!! So mental! I also go on holiday in just over a week! EXCITING! I have to say, I am so happy with the results and so proud of myself for getting through it. It's not over yet, but it has been a tough time. I thought I couldn't pull through and I thought I couldn't do it...BUT I HAVE!!! Anyway carrying on with how day 78 went...I was at college today as well and Wednesday is a much shorter day, spent the day in our groups for our site specific projects! (I have other blog posts on them) and the glamorous job of cleaning the costume and props cupboard! BUT it had to be done and at least it is out of the way and I wasn't the only one doing it! A lot of work was done today as well so I am feeling good! Other than college I didn't do much apart from more college blogging, more theory revision and so on…!

DAY 79:

A MASSIVE SURPRISE HAPPENED TODAY! So I went to my orthodontist for a check up because I thought my bite had moved horizontally! So when I went there my orthodontist said it was perfect and asked me if I liked my teeth how they are now, and I said 'why?' with some sort of idea with what he would say next and he said what I suspected which was 'we can take the brace off today' SO! I got my braces off and my retainers made for me within an hour and a half! I was so shocked, too see yet again naked teeth and they are so straight! I am so happy with them! I got my braces off 55 days before I was originally meant too and it feels amazing! I went into college and surprised everyone, I got a round of applause from my college class and so many compliments which was the best feeling! We also had a trip too see a site specific piece which I thought was really good but I went round the piece twice in the end because the first time I came out, I didn't really understand it! But the second time, it made much more sense too me!

DAY 80:

Friday is one of my two days off for college so today I had an eye test and my eye sight has gotten worse loool but I picked up a pair of new glasses and have to wait just over a week to get them back because I will be on holiday on the original day I needed to pick them up. Other than the eye test I didn't do much apart from revise theory and stay at my boyfriends which is the classic thing I do these days lol!

DAY 81:

I had work today but I didn't start till one in the afternoon so I missed the hectic breakfast but it was so busy at lunchtime as well! After work I got the bus home and got ready as I had a college party to go too so yeah! I saw two boys at the party that used to go to my college and they said how different I look and how great the results are which was such a nice feeling! Also found out that one of the two, Jack will be having a jaw surgery also! Becoming more common now I think! I had a really good time at the party but I didn't end up getting to sleep till about 2:30 am lol and I had work the next morning!

DAY 82:

Work was a mix and match of busy. Breakfast is always busy so the environment of work was stressful but we managed through it, I am also going to be till trained the weekend after I am back from work! After work, I went home and did theory revision and spent the night with my boyfriend.

DAY 83:

Today, I had my driving lesson and after that I went to mcdonald's. Then I did the usual of revising theory and all that, I also was revising maths because I still have to retake it. It's not my best subject to be honest and I have never seemed to be good at it so yeah haha. I also did some reading as I haven't for a while so did some of that and then went to bed!

DAY 84:

Technically I would have classed this as my three month mark, but the actual three months is over in a few days. But I have kind of been counting the marks for every Tuesday as my operation was on a Tuesday. But yeah I was at college and I was really tired this day, it was just the same old average day to be honest, I am getting back to normal so it's starting to be the same things happening every day!

DAY 85:

Although the week is technically finished, I am going to carry on writing on this post until my three months is actually finished even though as I said before I would have classed it as finished anyway. It was a long day today, well felt like it anyway because I was so tired. But it's just an average day that happens to be honest. I also went to view a car, unfortunately the add proved that it was too good too be true!

DAY 86:

It is the start of October and also I go to Malta tomorrow! Exciting! So I went to college and once I got home I had chicken and chips for dinner and packed for my holiday and I was flying from Gatwick, we had to stay at a hotel the night before in Gatwick because that airport is really far from where I live!

DAY 87:

MALTA!!! So I got to Malta, the flight was HORRIBLE! So many turbines and I had never been so scared but anyways...the hotel was gorgeous and we spent the day looking around and swimming and went out for cocktails and a lovely meal in the evening and had an early night!

DAY 88:

We spent the day touring half of Malta and it was so interesting! I had a fantastic time and it took a whole day too do it! In the evening we went to the capital Valetta to a festival, which was alright but it was still beautiful too see!

DAY 89:

We spent the whole day at Blue Lagoon, it was so beautiful and I swam in the sea and I am terrified of the sea so I was proud of myself! Then when we got back we had to pack and make our way to the airport. The flight home wasn't too bad, but then we had to drive home from Gatwick which was an extra two hours, eventually got home about two in the morning. I fell asleep and woke up about half 9 the next morning.

DAY 90:

It is now the end of the process as it is officially 3 months. I cannot believe the time speeding past, I am so incredibly happy with the results. I love the reactions and now my straight teeth! I would recommend anyone who is going through this process or thinking about going through it, too keep going and to do it if you know it will make you feel better because I know I feel so much happier in myself. I am so happy in myself now! It does get easier, it really does. Good luck, this may be my last ever post but you never know but for now...it's been great...thank you & good luck & goodbye! <3 xxx

Week 11

DAY 71:

So only this week and the week after and my 3 months of recovery are over. I had a migraine and sore throat all day. I went to college and had a trip in Cambridge. When me and my friend Saskia was on our way home, we went the wrong way and then when we nearly eventually got home, due to the rainfall we had an accident, where Saskia lost control and hit a tree but were okay we was just in a lot of shock.

DAY 72:

I didn't go to college as my head and throat was hurting so much and I was still in so much shock. But I just relaxed for the day because I didn't feel like doing much, my head was hurting so much and I was so tired. Other than that I just read and did some coloring.

DAY 73:

I started feeling a little better but I just went to the hospital to go to get a blood test so I could find out what is going on for my throat. I then went to the town center with my mum and had a nice lunch with her. Then my boyfriend stayed the night and I watched 'The Cat In The Hat' and then went to bed early as I needed to go work in the morning.

DAY 74:

I have been taking Vitamin C, and Ibuprofen, so it's made me feel a little better. Work was busy but it was okay, I was glad to be finished by 2:30, then I went MK shopping with my boyfriend, we went Nando's for dinner and then went through a few shops, it was nice to spend time with him. Then I had my friend's 18th birthday BBQ, it was a quiet gathering so it was nice. I had a good time seeing some old friends.

DAY 75:

Sunday is always more quite at work, so it was a lot more relaxed but we was short staffed so it was a little stressful at times but oh well! Then I had chicken curry for dinner, did some theory revision, caught up on some television shows and then went to my boyfriend's sister's house and spent time with his family, then spent the night at my boyfriend's house.

DAY 76:

Monday, I didn't go college because I am not in on Monday's. But I went into town with my mum and I picked up some new jeans and a nice long top for college, I really liked them! The weather was rubbish, it was so cold! Me and my mum also went out for breakfast which was really nice. & we had a tealight holder and we got a fake candle and we went to the graveyard to visit my grandparents graves, and we placed the tealight holder on the grave and it looked really lovely. I also had my driving lesson which was going great until I stalled when I was about to pull off on a roundabout LOL it was so embarrassing and so irritating because I haven't stalled in so long! I just brought my foot off the clutch way too soon LOL! Other than that, it went okay! Although towards the end my migraine was coming back :( So I took some ibuprofen!

DAY 77:

College was long but it felt like a lot of work had been done which is an even better feeling. I don't really know why but I wasn't feeling myself...I don't know why but hey ho! The day went on. Then when I got home I did a lot of blogging (on the college work of sides not so much for this blog) but I was working for so long, but at least I was getting the work done! Also...It is my 11th week mark today! So yeah! Now starting the final week of the 3 month recovery process although there's still a long way to go before it's completely over! Still got braces to come out and retainers to put in! Ah well, I guess it has got too be worth it in the end!

Week 10

DAY 64:

Here we go! It is the start of week 10! only a short period of time until my 3 months of recovery is up! I am so excited! At college it was the day to show our sight specific task to the first years! I have been looking forward to do this ever since I saw my old second years do it when I started college! We rehearsed up until 2 o'clock, because we had to watch what the first years made as well! And then it was our turn. I think it went really well and we all managed to impress our tutor! We was very happy with how it all turned out!

DAY 65:

This is the last day I am in college until Tuesday which is the mark of my 10 weeks! So today we had a few sessions with Olga to help us with coaching and really thinking about acting and characters! It was a really fun session! Then we had Ella and we started reading contemporary theatre pieces and it was obviously very different compared to what we had done in our first year. Then after college we all hung around outside as a group of first and second years and it was really nice to just all be together, chill and talk really. Although getting back home, there was loads of traffic but oh well! Got home in the end lol! I will finally be seeing Josh tomorrow as it will be Friday! And I cannot wait too see him as it as been a little over a year! As far as I know, he doesn't know I have had my surgery so let's see if he can guess what's different ;) or if he notices anything at all!!!

DAY 66:

So I didn't do much during the day, I should have revised theory but instead I spent the whole day catching up on Celebrity Big Brother LOL! Well it is good? So ;) Also in the evening I saw my American friend Josh, also with Aaron, Rory, and Mark. It was so good too see Josh, he didn't point out my jaw, I had to bring it up but he did say he noticed and asked if I am happy with it, which I am hehe! I went to bed about 11 pm because I had to be up at seven for work the next morning!!!

DAY 67:

Work was stressful for about two hours because it was breakfast serving and also it is a Saturday, so everyone decides to come into town on a Saturday and it gets very busy. Other than that, work wasn't too bad. By the time it comes to the end of my shift though, (even though I only do five hour shifts at a time) I am knackered and my feet ache. It's all just me getting back into reality and pushing my energy back! I also have work the next day which is a Sunday, so it should be a lot less busier!

DAY 68:

Work was pretty busy for a Sunday, but it was a lot quieter than the day before. My feet were killing by the time I had to go home, but it's a reassuring feeling when your getting paid to do all of it! I also had a meal to go too because one of my best friends, Anthony, is leaving to go to university very soon and we had a meal with a whole group of us there. It was weird seeing us all together but we had such a laugh! Afterwards we went to a dessert place and all had a dessert then I went home and went too sleep about 1 am but overall, I had a great day!

DAY 69:

So I did some theory revision, I also had a driving lesson that went really well and was happy with it. Then I saw some friends, including my American friend Josh which was his last night, it was really nice to have a meet up with my friends and we was all getting along really well. Then when Josh left I got really emotional LOL because now he is going to University in America, I won't probably see him for at least two / three years. Then I had an early night due to having college in the morning.

DAY 70:

IT IS THE 10 WEEK MARK AND ALSO DAY 70...which means I can start chewing again! So exciting! I am so proud of how far I have come and so happy I went through this process! So I went to college and had a good day, although the weather was kind of bipolar lol sometimes rain and sometimes sun lol? But anyway's I had a good day and it's time to start week 11!!!

Thursday, 10 September 2015

Week 9

DAY 57:

Today is a month until my three months of recovery is up! Also it is a month until I go away to Malta with my mum and sister hehe exciting! I went to visit a friend Danielle and her sister Charlotte and I haven't seen them since the beginning of April, Charlotte said how amazing my jaw looks and how brave I was lol! Danielle's jaw dropped (haha) when she saw me and said it looks great! It is such a good feeling when you get reactions like that, they said it's probably because they all knew how much I wanted it done so for me to have finally got it, is kind of a relief in a way? Other than that I didn't really do much at all! It was good too see them both though!

DAY 58:

I have been with Ruby and will be staying round hers for the night as well and plan to go shopping the next day to get stuff for college as I start next week which I can't believe is happening as I have just realized that I have basically spent my whole summer indoors but I kind of had too I suppose with having a major surgery like I have had. We tried to make 'Red Velvet Cake' but it kind of came out chocolate? The recipe we followed clearly gave us too much cocoa powder as it completely over powered the red food coloring lol oh well it was something to do anyway.

DAY 59:

So I went shopping and picked up a new coat for college but didn't manage to get the bag I wanted from New Look which means I will have to get it the next time I go to my local town center, but it was a good day and was nice to not feel so knackered afterwards. I had bought some stuff from Lush Cosmetics and I got a bath bomb called 'Frozen' and decided to use it, it was such a lovely colour and smelt amazing...felt so lush and fresh afterwards.

DAY 60:

As you can see, the days are starting to get more boring to write about now because I am so close till the end! Anyway, I had a MRI scan on my knee at 8 in the morning :'( ON A SATURDAY?!?! Oh well it was over pretty quick, then went into work at 11 and finished at 4:30. Also my throat infection came back and it was particularly bad on this day. I have nearly had this for a month now and it keeps coming back so I went to the doctors and got told it could be viral, therefore medication won't make it go away which is clearly what has been happening. So he gave me more penicillin but I have too take two, four times a day and they are much stronger too so I am BEGGING it will please just work this time! Also I had my friend's parents wedding anniversary and I saw her family (who hadn't seen me yet) and they were so surprised with the results but I was so happy! People I knew so well, I had to tell them it was me because they just had no clue! But I had a really good night!

DAY 61:

I had work the next morning at 9am! After a night out LOL but luckily, I wasn't suffering! Work was a lot better because it wasn't a Saturday and that's the busiest day out of the days I work. This also means that I start college the next day!!! Been away for just over two months and just going back to college, doesn't seem real to be honest! I had dinner at my boyfriend's house with his mum and dad which was lovely to spend some time with them!

DAY 62:

I went back to college! It was only for two hours but it was weird but lovely too see everyone, not many people said anything about my jaw because I don't think they knew what too say. Most of them had forgotten that I got it done haha! But yeah, what people said was lovely! After that, I was meant too see my friend Aaron and my American friend Josh, but it didn't quite pan out!

DAY 63:

It is my 9 week mark officially!!! So close to the end of the three months! I also went college again today and it was a much longer day, met the first years so it was nice to get to know more people! Also we got told we had to make a sight specific piece for the first years to watch the next day like we had last year when we was first years! Exciting! It was an average day at college to be honest except we also had some dance lessons! Week 10 starts tomorrow!!!

Thursday, 3 September 2015

Week 8

DAY 50:

Woah! 50 days, in 40 days it will be 90 days which is the 3 month mark! It is the start of week 8 which means it's nearly my two month mark since I had my surgery. I have already been through so much but I am so happy I did the surgery. So as usual, I didn't do much, I did some theory revision and then went to town with mum & spent time with my boyfriend at his house but that's pretty much it. When I got home that evening, I read loads...it got up to 1:30 am in the morning and I needed to go sleep although I still so badly wanted to keep reading!

DAY 51:

So my sleep wasn't too bad but I woke up at 11 am, and it was the day of my job induction for my new part time job! It was great, everyone seems really nice and I start on the 30th August, so only a few days now! Other than that, I came home and just read and watched tv...the usual.

DAY 52:

An old family friend came round called Holly, I hadn't seen her since I was in my early stages of week 2, so I have changed a lot since then, ya know...less swollen and all. We went out to a local market as it was such nice weather and then went into the little shopping centre. I saw a girl called Rebecca who used to be an intern at my college for my pantomime and also attended my college as well and she backed away from me even though I already told her it was me and she was amazed and she said I look so different but it looks really good which was nice! It's even better when people actually notice! To be honest we actually had a really nice day and then came back home and I have been doing my usual boring night standard of reading, watching tv and so on...maybe one day/night I won't be doing the usual boring stuff ha.

DAY 53:

It's the day before I start working! I only work weekends at the minute but haven't been timetabled to work until the 30th! So I went to town with my sister as she needed to sort out some bank stuff and I never have anything to do so it was just something to do for once haha. I picked up some new concealer and a new eyebrow kit. When we got home I did some theory and read a lot and X factor was also starting! I got a Chinese takeaway with mum, watched the Disney film 'Frozen' and then watched X factor with mum, other than that I had an early night as I had work in the morning - exciting.

DAY 54:

So I started work on day 54! I actually thought it went quite well and the day went pretty fast even though it was only a five hour shift anyway. Then after work I went with my sister to pick up my mum from a BBQ and then my sister had to take my mum and my mum's friend to London so I stayed home to have a evening by myself so I was in the middle of having a bath and then I hear a knock on the door and I'm thinking 'for goodness sake, of all the times I had to be in the bath'. So at first I thought it may of been my dad so I looked out the bathroom window and couldn't see his car but there was a white car parked on my drive and there is only two people I know who have white cars and that is my boyfriend and my mum's friend Irene, who had the BBQ earlier that day. The person kept knocking so in the end I knew it was my boyfriend and he wasn't due home for another day so it was a nice surprise to see him.

DAY 55:

It was bank holiday Monday and also the day before my surgery has been 2 months! I didn't do anything but chill all day which was nice and went to a cafe close by for breakfast with my boyfriend which was lush! And then had a nice dinner later on of gammon and mash as they are both really soft. Other than that, I didn't really do much at all. I usually have my driving lesson's on Monday but I have it on Tuesday this week because it being bank holiday.

DAY 56:

THE TWO MONTH MARK IS HERE!!! WOW! it's official it has been two months since I underwent jaw surgery, to be honest I don't feel much different to when it was my first month mark, just feel I can do a lot more without being worn out as much so yeah I am proud of myself! So I have my driving lesson which went okay, I wasn't overly pleased but I wasn't overly disappointed either which is good. Then afterwards I went Asda with mum and the fire alarm went off so we had to be evacuated for like ten minutes which was funny loool. Then I booked my theory when I came home so it's officially booked now so I've just been doing loads of revision. Then I remembered that my friend from America, Josh is coming down in a few days for a two week visit so it will be good too see him because it's been a year since I saw him! & Obviously lots has changed lool...kind of like my face being one of the major things to have changed since I saw him lol? hahaha!

Tuesday, 25 August 2015

Week 7

DAY 44:

It is the start of week 7 and I am starting to feel a lot more myself. Day 44 is Wednesday which means the last day of my antibiotics for my throat infection which is a relief! I also had my job interview, I wasn't that nervous to be honest. I think the interview went well but I won't find out until Friday or over the weekend if I have actually got the job. I also had the dentist and it was a quick check up which wasn't too bad. Other than that I relaxed to be honest I done some reading and watched some television. My boyfriend stayed the night and I watched a film as well.

DAY 45:

My sleep was alright to be honest but it's starting to get quite hot to be honest so I can tell my room is going to get real warm in the night. So I didn't do anything in the day, just the usual...reading and all that stuff to be honest. But my friend Emma stayed round who I haven't seen in ages which was nice to see her and we went out in the evening so it was really good too see her. She said I looked really different and was really impressed with it! I had a really good time seeing her.

DAY 46:

It's Friday! And today I had my old group of girls from school come round and it's Olivia's birthday on the 24th so we all gave her cards and presents, and we had a really nice day. I love seeing my girls because we have always been so close and it's just good to catch up with each other and everything. After they left I got a call from the man who interviewed me the other day and told me I got the job! So happy! And then I had to get the bus to see my boyfriend.

DAY 47:

I didn't have an amazing sleep because I felt like I couldn't breathe. I woke up in the night a few times with a sore throat so it made it obvious that my throat infection was coming back, so irritating. I had a dream that I couldn't breathe and I genuinely felt that way as well so my sleep was horrible. Anyway, I then went to the cinema with my boyfriend and watched the new Disney film 'Inside Out', it was actually a really good film, I enjoyed it. Came home and my throat was hurting again so I took sodium ibuprofen and we both came home. My neighbors were having a party so it was hard to sleep, it was also very hot in the night and I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep for about three hours. I eventually fell asleep and woke up at half 9 and my throat was very sore so I took some paracetamol. It being a Sunday, my doctors weren't open so I had to go into the walk-in center and got prescribed new tablets that are meant to work stronger too. Two a day, one every twelve hours so let's hope I feel better soon.

DAY 48:

One more day and it will be the final day of week 7! I woke up at 11 am which was great too have more sleep. I'm surprising myself now saying that in just over a week it would have been two months since my surgery! I am so happy that I got it done now that the time is flying and the results are better. I start college soon so it is going to be weird seeing everyone all at once because I usually see small amounts of friends at a time but I will be going back to college to over twenty people at once, it will be a shock - nervous!!! Anyway's, so it was raining so much! There has been so much sun here in England for once that it was actually weird too see so much rainfall ha! I also had a driving lesson and luckily the rain cleared up so much by the time my lesson came, my lesson went really well! It went so much better than the previous week, I also will hopefully be doing my theory soon...too scared to book it LOL! Anyways, it will all happen one day! When I got home I did some theory revision and then I watched a film, it was an old favorite of mine which was 'The Cat In The Hat' ! It was the 2003 version, I used to watch it all the time with my best friend Ruby because we loved it so much! Watching it made me remember how funny it was and still is LOL! Good times! My throat is also feeling a lot better again but because I took it at around 11:30 am I have to wait twelve hours until the next one so I need to take it as soon as I wake up, it's not as sore today which is a relief.

DAY 49:

It is officially the seven week mark! Pretty crazy to be honest but I am proud of myself! So I woke up around 11 am again which is nice but I woke up with NO electricity in the house :| and I couldn't find the electric key anywhere and my mum and sister was at work. My mum couldn't find it either so I spent the whole day eating hardly anything, reading, revising theory, and cleaning my room. It wasn't until about 6:30 pm that the electric came back. So as you can see I didn't do much at all. But moving on, coming onto the 8th week getting up to the two month mark!!!

Week 6!

DAY 35:

Week 6 is here! In two weeks it will be the two month mark! So yeah on day 35 I had my last orthodontist appointment and when I came home it was around the afternoon, the day before when I was in town I had seen an old friend and my other mate texted me and asked me to come and meet them which meant seeing two new faces too see the new me...to be honest they didn't really react when they saw me which is sad because I like getting the big shock reaction because it feels like they actually notice it. Oh well I can't help what they can and cannot notice. So yeah, I remember reading a recovery timeline telling me to go easy even after the 1 month mark...and now I can see why. My gosh, I walked around so much and then chilled at a friend's house and I was just knackered and felt quite sick to be honest, I just worn myself out. Also my throat was still killing so much so my mum gave me paracetamol and half way through eating a pot noodle...I stopped feeling pain! Although I knew it was temporary, it was such a good feeling. I then made a doctors appointment and had to wait two more days aghhhh!!!

DAY 36:

I just could hardly sleep, it was rather depressing. I kept waking up in the night because my throat was so sore to swallow. But on day 36 I was seeing Kerri and Kelsey and had to go Kerri's house, I was still weak from the day before and wasn't feeling great but I was determined to see them. I ended up getting a taxi to Kerri's even though it's a ten minute walk because I just knew that I wouldn't make it if I was to walk. It was a fun but painful day and I sat funny so then I got this awful pain at the back of my neck near the top agh!

DAY 37:

Terrible sleep again...this sore throat is doing my nut in! I had to get up early anyway as I have my doctors appointment but I also was going London to watch a West End show and going for dinner, was meant to go at 1:30 to go around Covent Garden but I just said I couldn't do it because I will be so knackered by the time it's for the show and I just won't enjoy it as much as I would want too. So I felt very nauseous in the morning, I thought I was going to be sick, then when I was waiting at the doctors, I felt nauseous again and I was given Ibuprofen, Penicillin and Paracetamol. I have to take the penicillin till the course is done which is Wednesday (day 39). I felt a lot better after taking all that medicine and I have to take the penicillin after I eat and take one, three times a day. I still went London but we went in the evening and I felt nauseous after my meal again which was bad but then I felt a lot better after and I enjoyed the show but then after I felt very tired and poorly.

DAY 38:

I got woken up early by my sister which wasn't the best feeling! But oh well, I guess it can't be helped sometimes. I felt a lot better on day 38, my sore throat pain had practically gone but I still have to take the penicillin till the course is finished unless I am told to stop otherwise. I didn't do much at all to be honest, I did some theory revision and just relaxed. My boyfriend stayed the night and I was really tired so we went sleep pretty early.

DAY 40:

I FINALLY GOT A LAY IN!!! I woke up at 11 am and I felt a lot better. It was Saturday and in the evening I had a charity event to go to for a dear friend of mine who's mum passed away and it was near her 50th birthday! So during the day, I did theory revision and read books and that was about it, just the usual to be honest! & then I went to the charity event and the two daughters hosting the event hadn't seen me for a while especially one of them and they said it's crazy how different I look! & the dad said my hair was different which I hadn't changed but haha it was the fact I had jaw surgery. Then a close family friend who everyone in the family had seen me except her, finally saw me and got in a right state bless her! It was a really good night and then I went home and got too sleep.

DAY 41:

My sleep wasn't too bad again, I did some theory revision & then me and my boyfriend had to go into the town for him to pick up some shirts for work and we booked tickets to go to the IMAX cinema and too see the new film PIXELS! It was actually a really good film! It was so clever how they did it and we had a really good time and then I went home and just did some reading before I went to bed.

DAY 42:

I got called up and got offered a job interview for this week, my second job interview I have been offered this week, ah I feel blessed! I also had a driving lesson which was my worst lesson as I was taken in very closed/small roads and lots of closed junctions...just wasn't that nice to be honest, but I either learn it now or dread it when I pass. Then I met my dad at matalan to help me with clothes for the interview. I settled with a white blouse with black butterflies on them, smart skinny black trousers and shiny black loafers! I now feel smart and prepped for this interview! Tomorrow will be my six week mark!!! CRAZY!

DAY 43:

Officially the six week mark! Only two more weeks then it has been two months since I underwent my double jaw surgery! I woke up around 9ish and wanted to sleep more but I woke up feeling very awake and not sleepy enough to get back to sleep. Day 43 was boring, a friend came round which was really good too see her but I didn't do much. My swelling really has gone down, my mum and my sister say they don't think that there is anymore swelling to go down because it doesn't look it, but I can feel it and I am still puffy around my cheeks, but my surgeon said I would be more puffy in the cheeks naturally as well because my top jaw has been bought forwards so it fills out my face a lot more. I do not feel much pain now except when I yawn or I open my mouth too wide. I have one more day to complete the course for my penicillin for my throat infection and then I'm free LOL! I stopped taken ibuprofen because I ran out of the amounts that were given to me so I didn't bother getting anymore as they had done there job of getting rid of the pain. Now let's start week 7!

Last post op orthodontist appointment

So on my exact 5 week mark, I had my last post op orthodontist appointment (well I think so anyway LOL). As I said in my previous 'week 5' post, I mentioned I would be so happy if I could take all the elastics off! My dream came half true and that's just as good! He took off the elastics that I could also remove myself, then took off the two grey ones that go along the brace. By this point the elastics weren't giving me as much trouble as two weeks ago so I wasn't as majorly bothered as I thought I was but it was still so good to have them off! My orthodontist said about me still wearing the removable elastics but only at night which I was happy about! To be honest, they never really bothered me after the first few days of having them because I got used to them and the routine I had to do so it was no longer an issue. But I was really good with my elastics and it paid off because now I only have to wear them at night! Result!

Also my surgeon came down as well and this is the first time I had seen him since about ten minutes before my surgery haha! He came to check on the bite and was really impressed and looked at my x rays and compared them and he also got a tool and tapped my face to see if I had any feeling. I thought I didn't but I actually do...very slightly. It's obviously still very early days so I wouldn't have that complete sensation but I do have more feeling than I thought I did.

Me and my mum thanked my surgeon and I also mentioned on behalf of my dad that he also says thank you and even though my braces treatment isn't finished yet, I still also thanked my orthodontist. They really are two incredible men that have changed my life forever, I cannot thank them enough.

Week 5

DAY 29:

So now the fifth week begins! Everything is starting to get easier to get used to such as the fact I still can't chew and missing certain foods but I think I am doing really well considering I am only on week five. So on day 29 another college friend came over to stay and she thought I looked so different. Before I had my surgery, she never really realised my under bite, but now that I have had the double jaw surgery she realized that I did have one and it has made such a difference to my face. For dinner I had hot dogs and potato alphabet letters (kind of like smiley faces but in letter form haha ), it was alright to eat because they are both very soft and I can just push them to the roof of my mouth and crush it down to make it easier to eat. I went to bed very late actually...probably not till about three am. But my sleep wasn't too bad in the night.

DAY 30:

WOOP! Day 30 ;) so yeah my sleep was alright actually, because I went bed later I woke up a little later so I woke up at 10:30 am, I know this isn't extremely late but it is a lot later than I have been waken up these past few weeks. My elastics are a lot easier now too, I didn't do much on day 30 to be honest just chilled out and relaxed. Did some theory revision because to be honest...I want to be on the roads asap.

DAY 31:

It's the day before my amazing father's birthday! SO I MADE A CAKE! Only made one recently for my sister's boyfriend's birthday too haha! Anyway's I made the cake and in between I did some theory revision again as well because I am starting to feel a lot more up to doing it now. Then I did two separate topics and then I finished the cake, my friend then came over for a short visit and told me she just got a job...SO for ages now I have needed a job now! I just get no luck with applications and interviews, this made me think now that I feel a lot more better that I should think about applying for some jobs! Then my dad came round as we won't be seeing him on his actual birthday because he is going to Brighton. We then went out to an ice cream place and I had a chocolate digestive cookie shake which was SO good! And it was easy to have as well because it was a shake and I could drink it through a straw or out the glass and not look like a tramp! There was two girls working there who I went to school with and one of them kind of startled when she saw me and realised it was me when she saw my family members ha! Classic, I could have some real fun with this new look mwahahaha! Then I went out with some friends and didn't get home till late and had my dinner at 3 am lol, it was really good though! Also my elastics bands were out for a good few hours which I know is bad but my canines on my bottom jaw were really hurting from the elastics pulling on them so I needed to have a break from them! I then stayed at my boyfriend's house and since we got together he's been trying to make me watch 'The Lego Movie' LOL and I kept saying 'another time' so I could try and ditch it...oops but I said we'd watch it because I had too one day and the more I put it off, the more chances would have came along for us to watch it haha! And to be honest, it actually wasn't that bad!

DAY 32:

My sleep wasn't actually too bad, I woke up at 11 am which is the latest I have slept in so far which was nice. Day  32 was actually a really nice day. I went to a nearby shopping centre to return my EE power bar because they had been reported to be exploding which is obviously not good! Then I bought some really nice white sandals as I wanted them for ages and just my luck I got the last pair and they so happened to be my size as well! AND the price was reduced from £35 to £16!!! So I had to buy them to be honest! Then we went to my boyfriend's sister's house for a BBQ, of course I couldn't eat what they was eating but his sister made me some noodles which were really nice and easy to eat of course and it was a really hot day which meant my worst nightmare... WASPS :( D: oh gosh I hate them so much...then I had a fruit pastel ice lolly which was my first one since I had the surgery and it was so nice but it felt a lot colder than it used to be...maybe because I'm used to hot liquid foods...mmm hahaha but then again, I do have really sensitive teeth! Then I went home and had gammon, mash, Yorkshire puddings all smothered in gravy to soften the Yorkshire puddings and oh my golly gosh it was sooooooooo lush!!!! I had to get up early the next day so I didn't go to bed as late.

DAY 33:

So I woke up an hour before my alarm and took ages to fall back asleep but then I finally did and woke up by my alarm at 9 am, I woke up feeling awake which is better than having dry/sleepy eyes sometimes! I had to be up early because my mum wanted us to go into the town to give out some CV'S to try get me a job, it's hard because you can tell when they won't give the CV to the manager or anything which is pretty rubbish. Oh well. I came home and applied for loads of jobs online also, and looked for the jobs at the shops where they said I had to apply online and tried to cram in as many applications as I could. Then I had a driving lesson at 2:30 in the afternoon, same as last week and this lesson, I learnt how to do an emergency stop and looked under the bonnet so now all I need to do is get my theory out the way and go over everything in my driving and hopefully I will be on the roads soon! Which would be handy for jobs/college. Tomorrow I have an orthodontist appointment, hopefully my elastics will be gone but I can only dream can't I?

DAY 34:

Well it's officially the 5 week mark! 5 weeks ago I was under surgery? that's just mental. Anyway I will be posting another post about my day as I had my last post op appointment today until I see my orthodontist again in October...now that is ages away lol. Unless of course I have any issues or then I can visit him sooner. So I had a horrible night's sleep the night before coming onto the morning of day 34. I tried to get to sleep about 10:30 pm as I needed to be awake very early as I had an appointment at 9:15 am. I took a while but eventually fell asleep and as I was going to sleep I all of a sudden developed a sore throat on the right side of my throat :| HA just what I need isn't it? And I thought it would go by the morning but NOPE. I woke up at 2 am and couldn't get back to sleep till 3:30 am and then woke up again at 5:30 am and I took 20 ml of liquid paracetamol to see if that would ease it off. I went in the toilet to see if I could see any redness or signs of tonsillitis and there was nothing there so it was very odd. In the morning, the pain wasn't gone which was the last thing I wanted. My mum gave me a throat sweet and that worked for a short period and then I had to go and throughout the day I have taken more but it's just so sore to swallow on just one side? It's not agonising/horrible pain but I cringe when I have to swallow because it hurts. Now it's time to start week 6!

Week 4

DAY 22:

Finally! I'm on week 4, the weeks are starting to fly by. Next thing you know I'll be saying 'this time last year' oh goodness! Anyways, I read up a 'double jaw surgery recovery timeline' and it said on day 22 and afterwards, I would notice a substantial feeling back in my upper lip and cheeks but my nose, chin, bottom lip etc will remain completely numb, however I haven't really received any feeling back, I am hoping it will come back soon as I am missing having feeling on my face. I haven't taken any medication, just been chilling throughout the days.

DAY 23:

What a dreadful day. From my third appointment at the orthodontist (as you will see in my previous post), it was the worst because I had forgotten the feeling of having elastics on to keep your jaw shut in a certain position! I came out and my two front bottom teeth were in agony and the same with my top two front teeth! I had to get some paracetamol and ibuprofen as well as I was hurting! I then started to decrease the talking again and if I did speak, I kept my teeth bit together to stop the sore feeling so I got back to the first few stages where nobody could understand me again! HAHA! I took out my elastics when I got home so I could eat my lunch and then tried to put them back in and it was actually really hard! One of them pinged and it hurt so bad but it was fine afterwards as I managed to get them on, I took an hour nap and when I woke up my teeth on the front was aching so badly where I had my teeth forced shut together! When I made dinner, I forgot I had them in and tried to eat with them in and then gave up so just took them out again, I didn't put them back on for the rest of the day because I was hurting so bad and just couldn't hack it, I know I should have worn them but I was in agony! I did my hot and cold packs before I went to bed and did some reading, eventually I went to sleep about half 12.

DAY 24:

What a horrible nights sleep from the night before! I just kept waking up and couldn't get comfortable! I forgot to bring the paracetamol up to my room so I couldn't give myself any pain relief if I woke up in the night! I had to readjust pillows because my neck was aching from how my head was resting. I eventually woke up at half 9 and took some paracetamol and ibuprofen. Day 24, I saw a very close friend of mine from school, Kerri. It was so good to see her, the minute she came in we was laughing in seconds and bringing up memories! So I did actually have a good day which was nice comparing to how I felt in the morning (my shower definitely helped brightening my day). So I chocked on a pepperoni - oh dear! My sister gave me a slice of pizza for me to break and eat bit by bit which I was able to handle...unfortunately, I couldn't handle the pepperoni, I put the whole piece in my mouth to break it down and it slipped down my throat and got stuck, I tried to cough it up, then I tried drinking water to help it slide down my throat but it just wouldn't go so I started chocking and gagging which was very painful on my jaw, my boyfriend heard me and got my sister up to help as I started to panic and couldn't actually breathe, I drank more and it went...it wasn't nice but I brought it on myself and I was more careful with the rest of the pizza and taking it easy with other foods. Again I stopped wearing the elastics around  8 pm because they was hurting so much and didn't wear them in the night - oops.

DAY 25:

It's officially August! And it's coming close to my 1 month mark since the surgery! So day 25 wasn't too bad, I didn't have as much pain in my mouth from the elastics because I wasn't wearing the extra two, but I did wake up a few times in the night and I took some paracetamol and ibuprofen in the morning just to relax the pain in my teeth and mouth slightly! I then had something to eat in the morning and this was the day when I started being a lot better with my elastics because I have no choice but to wear them because if I don't wear them now I will regret it and may have to end up wearing more or wearing them longer which wouldn't be worth it so every time I ate, I would brush my teeth and then put my elastics straight on or if I didn't brush my teeth because I only ate a snack I would use mouthwash or put on my elastics until I went upstairs to do it. I wore them a lot on day 25 until I ate something and I wore them to bed.

DAY 26:

Sleeping with the extra two elastics in wasn't actually as bad as I thought it would be, I did wake up feeling like my bite went back to what it was like when it had moved slightly before I got given the elastics, but it was fine after a while. The morning was quite horrible because I usually don't feel hungry but I don't want to take off my elastics until I actually have the food sitting there in front of me, I don't want to risk anything now! I had to go into the town center where my boyfriend lives with him and his mum and I went into the back seat...guess what? there was a wasp in the car :| people who know me well will know that I have a HUGE fear of wasps and mostly any insects ha. So I had to suffer with this wasp flying around me whilst we drove to the town...oh dear. Other than all that, day 26 was actually alright, I did feel tired because it was my first night not staying at home since the surgery so I was in a different bed and a different environment so it was new again. I was good with my elastics again today and spent the night at my friend's house, so another night away from home! Also for dinner I had pizza! Obviously I was careful and it probably took me just under an hour to eat four slices and I had to break it up very small...also I had some chicken chunks too and they were very juicy...so they was easy to swallow although I had to still break them up very small!

DAY 27:

My one month mark is in one day! CRAZY?! It also means my elastics will hopefully be gone in just slightly over a week! Day 27, I did my first driving lesson in an exact month and it went surprisingly really well...it felt odd driving but I surprised myself how easily I got back into it and my instructor was pleased as well because I had been out of it for a month! I got back and watched a film with my sister and then I just relaxed but it's been an ok day!

DAY 28:

I have officially survived the first month of the recovery! I thought one week was loads but clearly not, I'm starting to feel more like myself again. Day 28 has been a fantastic day, my group of girls from school came round and we all got the chance to catch up with one another and it's just been such a great day to have the chance to see them again and were already planning to meet up again the following week coming! My elastics haven't really been hurting but I did take some paracetamol and ibuprofen in the morning because I did feel quite horrid in the morning but that's normal to me these days because the mornings are always the worst. I am staying out again for the night and trying to get myself out more but not go too wild as I'm still not 100% just yet, but I am starting to feel more positive and feel more happy in myself. I haven't been doing my hot and cold packs pretty much the majority of week 4 but I guess that's because most of the swelling has gone and I don't think I will be able to get any more down by myself, I think the rest will leave on it's own terms and the same with the numbing...I do hope that some feeling in my face comes back soon though haha!

Third orthodontist appointment

This by far was the WORST appointment than the previous appointments because this time I had to have four sets of elastics! I had to get an X ray before I was seen and then when I came into the orthodontist room, they had pictures of my old jaw X ray and the one I had taken just earlier that day! It was so weird because they were put next to each other and there was more things that you could compare. So my orthodontist took out the wire from my bottom brace and then placed this new wire in but not to tighten the brace (at least I don't think so anyway LOL) and apparently it was more flexible too! Then he put these grey elastics that can go across the whole brace on both my top and bottom brace, this was so uncomfortable but I had these on my top brace before, but it was before my surgery! Then he put a mirror in front of me to show me how to put on my other elastics, with these ones I could remove them but I can't remove the grey ones. I could only take them off when I eat and brush my teeth! This then gave me so much achy pain afterwards but my orthodontist assured me "It's to make everything perfect".  I know in the future I'll say all of this was worth the pain but right now it's killing, but it's great to have such a supporting orthodontist that is certain to make all this treatment worth it! My next appointment isn't until 11th August, I don't know if I will still have to wear elastics after that appointment but by the 11th, my surgery would have been 1 month and 1 week ago. AH that's crazy! Let's see what the future appointments hold!

Week 3

DAY 15:

It's the start of week 3! Finally I'm getting somewhere haha! So I did my hot and cold packs the night before and wore my ice packs in the night. I had to wake up early because I had a orthodontist appointment which was annoying because I hardly got sleep the night before - oh well I've hardly slept for two weeks, one morning won't hurt! Today wasn't bad, hospital appointment went well and some friends visited me so it felt good to have different people visit and get all the reactions.

DAY 16:

Day 16 wasn't too bad either, I didn't do much though. I went asda and actually went into the supermarket as I wouldn't before, I saw my sister and her friends and I was so nervous to see someone I knew in my year but I didn't. I was kind of sleepy but didn't actually do much during the day, I just watched films.

DAY 17:

I made a cake on day 17! Actually I made two haha because the first one didn't go to plan and I actually only had one dosage on my medication at 10am and because I kept myself busy the whole day I didn't feel pain as much but then I took some before I went bed and I did my hot and cold packs so day 17 was an okay day and I felt a little more of myself for once. I also actually managed to eat some of the cake I made, I just had to put it to the rough of my mouth and soften it up before I could swallow it - how I have missed cake.

DAY 18:

I was annoyed at my neighbors because they were hammering at 7:30 am and carried on till 10 am so I managed to sleep until 10 am but I was still annoyed at my neighbors. I went shopping with my mum today just to get some fresh air and to get out the house. It was great to be out but then I got a belly ache for some reason so my shopping trip was ruined and afterwards I just went home to rest and chill out. I had some spaghetti hoops for dinner and managed to eat some hot dog sausages (obviously without the bread). My teeth felt quite weak and tight on day 18.

DAY 19:

I woke up at different times again shock! I took some medication about 10 am and wondered what to eat once again, it gets boring once you are on the third week eating the same foods every day. I had a college friend visit me which was nice to have some company and for dinner, I had some spaghetti that had been broken down so it was smaller! I also managed some gammon (of course I didn't chew) but I managed to swallow bits of the gammon whole because it was really soft and moist. I also had a Yorkshire pudding! which was slightly harder to swallow because it was more cooked in places which made it more crisp, so I just broke it down into little parts at a time. I chilled a lot on day 19 and went to bed watching Mamma Mia the movie then went to sleep! So just a normal average day!

DAY 20:

Day 20 wasn't too bad actually! I woke up about 10 am because I heard my mum on the phone so I probably may have slept longer if that hadn't of woken me up which is good! I didn't take any medication for the whole day or even before I went to bed which is the first time ever since I have had the surgery! Week 3 went really quick too. I saw three of my friends that I have known for a few years and they all said they didn't recognize me at first and said I looked so different and when I explained to them what happened in the surgery/how the past few weeks have been/medication I had to take they were so surprised as I don't think they realized that all that would be going on! It was so nice to see my mates, I felt a little like my old self again and almost forgot I had the surgery. I could see some loose stitches on my top jaw but didn't touch them as I didn't want to risk anything. Other than my friends coming round, I spent time with my boyfriend and watched three films during the whole day but spaced out so I wasn't watching them one after the other. I did my hot and cold packs again when I put my film on about 10 pm purely just for comfort and to encourage blood flow in my face. I took ages to actually fall asleep but I needed to sleep because I had to get up early for a knee appointment the next morning!

DAY 21/3 WEEKS:

So it is officially three weeks since I was in surgery! I can finally say it is only a week until I have survived the first month! Now that the first two horrible weeks are out of the way, hopefully the weeks will be quicker because as soon as the first and second week was out the picture, the third week just flew past. And that is probably down to the fact that I have seen more friends and haven't been in as much pain! Just so irritating that now I can sleep longer, my neighbors are still building and my family seem to forget I'm home hahaha! Oh well got at least another six weeks until college starts again! I had an appointment on day 21 but not for my jaw - ha! It was for my knees, I know this is completely off the subject off this blog but I'm putting down what I did on each day so may as well mention it! Anyways, since I was about 10 years old I have had sore knees, I had minor pain before in earlier years but thought it would just go away, obviously I was wrong and waited till I was about 11 years old to mention it to my mum. My mum suffers from arthritis in her knees so I immediately thought sore knees had been passed down in my genes lol - my worried child mind. I went to my hospital where I was told I didn't have as much of an arch in my foot as I should do and was given these weird insoles. I wore them till I was 15, still with knee pain. Needless to say they didn't work. I started seeing a friend of my mum's who done 'muscle activation technique' and this technique came from Canada. I saw him for a few months and this really helped my knees, I almost felt like I could do anything with my knees and not worry if it would hurt. After a while I stopped going as it was expensive for my mum to pay for every week! After a few months of pain free knees, the pain came back. I ignored it and recently since the surgery, my knees have become extremely painful and have no idea was has caused this. My right knee has always been worse and felt like when I bend and straighten out my right leg, a part of my knee 'pops' in a way? It was horrible so my doctor referred me and that is how I got my appointment today, I actually got an X ray too! The X ray showed that both knee caps are slightly worn and X rays obviously do not show the cartilage, they just show the bone so I am going to a scan too. My right knee looked like some of my bone had chipped off but the doctor explained that you only seen bone on X rays and cannot actually say if it is chipped. Have to wait and see for the new future, but...here's to the third week!!! A friend stayed round for the night and that was great too have a nice catch up and feel well enough to have someone stay over. I did my hot and cold packs and also took 10 ml of paracetamol and ibuprofen before I went bed too, just for some comfort.

Second appointment with Orthodontist!

So today was my second appointment with my orthodontist since the surgery. As I said before, he didn't put my elastics back on as he knew they was causing me trouble and said he was impressed with the bite. So I went back today thinking I would need them back but my orthodontist was very impressed with my bite and said he couldn't do much with something that is already fine as it is and told me that they would leave the elastics off again for another week and said the third week will be a lot more work done as that is what they tend to do. I think next week is my last appointment until August 11th.

Also today I got my appointment booked in for when my braces come off which is November 19th later this year which is such a good feeling, I cannot wait for my brace to come off! But also I am scared because I would hate my teeth to go back and not stay straight! Because with retainers you have the luxury to take them off when they annoy you but with braces you just have to deal with it so I am going to try my best, my teeth have been through so much so once they get a break, I need to be committed to wear the retainers.

They showed my x ray that was taken the day after my surgery, whilst I thought they took out all four wisdom teeth...they actually only took out my bottom ones. I saw all the screws too which was crazy! It looked so weird because every time I saw my x ray, it was me with an under bite so it was mental!

I am looking forward to the next steps and when they whole process is complete! Onwards and upwards from here, right now couldn't think more positive!

Week 2

DAY 8:

Day 8 I had my first check up with my orthodontist (as I stated in the previous post). I am not going to lie this day was really hard and was actually quite painful. I decided to try and lay down but not completely just lowering down more than I have been the previous week. I found that as the day went on I got some headaches so I sat up a little more. I also laid off the codine for the day (except for the morning - 15ml) I felt that the pain also came from that also.

Because I did not have any elastics on, I found it a lot easier to talk but I also avoided talking loads because it was very tiring after a while. I also brushed my teeth for the first time - something I was looking forward too...until I did it ha! I have to admit it was the weirdest experience of my life because I had to use a baby toothbrush and there were parts of my mouth which were more numb then others. Also I could not tell whether I was brushing my teeth or my gums, I couldn't fully open my mouth so I had to be really gentle whilst brushing my teeth. Afterwards, my teeth were almost like throbbing? It was a weird experience not going to lie.

I ate a pot noodle for dinner, so weird... I didn't chew them. I just drank the noodles out the cup. I have missed pot noodles not going to lie but I have hardly any taste in my mouth so it wasn't the same :(.

I have been doing this thing when I use ice packs and hot packs (my hot pack smells of lavender haha) and been doing heat and cold on my face to try and encourage some circulation in my blood in my face to decrease the tightness of my skin on my face and to encourage the swelling to go down also. I started doing this is the first week and tend to do it in the late hours of the evening, usually before I go bed or whilst I am watching the tv. I tend the find the next morning that it actually helps as the swelling tends to go down.

DAY 9:

I woke up a few times in the night coming into the morning of day 9. I woke up sometime in the morning and found I was really sore, I managed to fall back asleep and I woke up again about half 9 and took paracetamol, ibuprofen, vitamin C and had some milk too. I felt a lot better once the medication had kicked in. I looked in the mirror and realized that so much of this swelling had gone down and I was starting to look like myself again. I had a big bruise on my neck which has been there a while but that was specifically hurting for some reason but that pain eased as the day went on.

I tend to stay in bed the majority of the day, but now I am starting to plan to go on walks very soon, obviously not in very busy places just yet but emptier places to get some fresh air. I saw on a recovery tip list that it mentioned to go on walks as it can encourage the swelling to go down and help get yourself back on track.

I am really starting to miss solid foods! I got a few presents after my surgery and got given a terry chocolate orange and chocolate magic stars from my mum - sad life. I tried eating a magic star, I didn't bother attempting to chew it, I just pushed the magic star to the roof of my mouth and I could only slightly taste the chocolate, I had three altogether and did not bother having anymore because it just was not the same :( and the top of my mouth was so numb that I couldn't even feel the chocolate star in my mouth, how depressing. It seems that since I got my surgery EVERYONE is posting their food on snapchats and instagram, coincidence or?

I found day 9 a big struggle because of my swollen lips, particularly my top lip it's been so painful. I felt so annoyed because I really wanted solid food and I can't have it :(. My back of my lips (inside my mouth) have been so painful because my lips are sticking to my brace which have hurt my stitches and my mouth is constantly hurting and aching. It also feels like my braces have been tightened on top of that as well so that doesn't help! Let's hope day 10 is better.

DAY 10:

So during the night I woke up once about 4:20 am, luckily I had my paracetamol upstairs that I would have taken at 2:30 am so I took that and this helped some of the pain ease so that I could fall back asleep. The next morning I woke at about 8:30 am and took my meds. I was really tired on day 10 as I had woken up a lot earlier than I had wanted too so I was quite sleepy. My swelling on my lip had gone down slightly so that also eased the pain.

My mum has been worried about me not feeling 'full', so she went to asda to try and find some other foods I could attempt to eat. She bought me this pasta that you just add boiling water too and the pasta is really tired so it was actually possible for me to eat which tasted really nice. She also was recommended to buy this product from asda called 'meal replacement' it's like a strawberry smoothie and it acts like you have just ate a meal to fill me up. It smelt a little like these cakes I used to make when I was younger called 'Tom and Jerry' cupcakes, ha memories they tasted good. I had a nap for about an hour and when I woke up I still felt really tired and felt extremely hot and quite sick so I decided to sit outside for a bit and that fresh air helped me a little as I am always sitting in the house.

I went to sleep about 1 am latest I think as I needed to sort everything ready for bed and take my medication for midnight and sort out the next dosage. I also did hot and cold packs on my face again late at night to help the circulation of the blood go around in my face to encourage the swelling to go down.

DAY 11:

Slowly but surely coming up to the second week mark! I know it's not loads and I have a long way to go but it's so weird that it will be two weeks? The days go so slow and then you realize it hasn't even been two weeks yet and the recovery roughly takes up to three months! Plenty more weeks to go, I can promise myself that.

Anyway, day 11 has probably been the best day so far. I slept till 6:30 am without waking up, which is the longest I have slept for in the night so I took 10 ml of paracetamol. Then I fell back asleep till 10 am and could have slept longer but my neighbors thought they would mow their lawn - haha irritating! So I did feel quite sleepy for about an hour. As usual, I took my medication, vitamin C, drank some milk, ate some soup, had some yogurt and mouthwash (average morning for me). On day 11, I actually left the house. My sister took me to a close by field which people go to for walks/picnics and so on. I was out for about an hour and the walk felt really good. I had got some fresh air so this helped me. I did feel tired once I got home though as it had been the longest I have been out the house and the longest I have walked, but I weren't as exhausted as I thought I would be.

Swelling on my lip and face has also gone down today, I cannot wait till all of the swelling inside my mouth has gone and when my lips fully go back down and when my top lip is no longer numb. When this day comes I will be so happy. I still go to bed with an ice pack around my face because it is still quite comforting and helps numb out some of the pain.

DAY 12:

Again, during the night I woke up around 5:30 am just the once and took the rest of my paracetamol (10 ml). Also I took off my ice pack that I had around my face as it had melted and wasn't needed anymore then I fell back to sleep till about 10 am. Sleep is getting a lot more easier now as the pain is easing off now. I read a recovery timeline on double jaw surgery to get a rough idea on the recovery process and it said at the two week mark that sleeping should no longer be such an issue, so I am quite lucky to start getting this a few days before the two week mark, I used to wake up about four times maybe five in the night when I had not long had the surgery and it was so bad.

So day 12 was okay, I went to ikea with my mum and that was nice because it got me out the house again. I was out for about three hours maximum and I didn't feel so tired afterwards like I did the day before after my walk. I had a friend and her mum visit me and the last time they both saw me was only a few days after the surgery and they both noticed how much the swelling had gone down and how much brighter I seemed as I was moving about more and wasn't sat down all day.

I had two 10 ml doses of ibuprofen on day 12 and after those two I stopped taking it as the pain is not as bad now so I am just on paracetamol now. I didn't take the medication quite as often on day 12 which was because I didn't feel so much pain like I used to before. Once I got home I felt a lot more relaxed, my mum tried getting me to have mash potatoes with gravy and I started off okay but then found it was hurting me too much as it required me to open my mouth a lot more than I have been and wanted to be. So I stopped eating it and just had one of the mug pasta foods again. I also can easily drink through a straw now which is lucky! It is still slightly uncomfortable but I find it a lot easier than I did when it was the first few days. I have only tried the plastic straws that you get with sippy cups and only use it when I need to drink my meal replacement because it is a much thicker drink.

I didn't feel as tired during the day which was refreshing, I did feel slightly sleepy when I first got home from being out but it wasn't like how it has been in the past few days. I am looking forward to when it has been the second week mark, so far the second week has been a lot more better and prefer it way more than the first week - so glad that first week is out the way I can promise you that. Now let's just see how day 13 goes!

DAY 13:

Ahh day 13 was just not a great day. I woke up around 9:30 am and was still knackered and then I had to table soluble paracetamol (which tastes nasty), then I tried to bathe myself for the first time alone - as I usually needed help with my hair, it hurt to hold my head back because of the swelling. So I had a bath and then got rid of the bath water and had a shower (it was my first time standing up in the shower since before the surgery), so I was fine until it got to the last part when I just needed to rinse out my conditioner and I started to feel very weak and tired. I wanted to just sit down so I went I was done I just went to my bed and chilled for about half an hour. My mum came home and then I had some paracetamol and I felt so sleepy, I tried to eat and just felt so heavy and weak. I sat outside for a while to get some fresh air but this didn't do much. This day was not the best day but it wasn't the worse either, I found that the paracetamol was not helping so I asked mum if I could have ibuprofen, ha I lasted a day. I really hate the stuff but I have to admit I felt a lot better afterwards.

Day 13 felt like the longest day, it just dragged and I did nothing. I was so bored but couldn't do anything because I felt dizzy and weak the minute I sat up. It is quite comfortable to go sleep with an ice pack and if you wake up in the night, take it off and you shouldn't feel like you want a new one, - well at least I feel like that anyways, everybody's recovery is different. So only one day left until I can say it has been two weeks, I got asked recently if I could say 'would I do it all over again?' and I said 'No because the draining of recovery'. Maybe when the three months are up at least I may feel differently...hmm we'll see. I didn't do my hot and cold packs this night and I didn't go to bed with an ice pack and thought I would most likely regret this.

DAY 14:

It is the two week mark! but the sleep from the night before coming onto day 14 was horrible and I woke up four times but from 5:30 am on wards. I woke up and managed to get back to sleep even though I was in a lot of pain. I then woke up at 7:30 am and needed to get back to sleep and once again I managed to fall asleep. Then I woke up at 8:30 am and I realized that this time I would not go to sleep till I had some medicine and ice packs. So I got it all sorted out and also realized when I went back to bed that my head was not comfortable because I was aching from my head down to the middle of my back. So I took off my V pillow and the folded blanket and used my actual pillow as I was using these new soft ones on their own. So I put a soft one and then my actual pillow on top and when I laid down I was a lot more comfortable. Luckily I fell asleep and woke up at 10:15 am so I was happy I managed to get some more sleep. I then laid in bed for ages (I can be so lazy), and I got up to have a bath without wetting my hair. Then I went out the house for a bit to go to a drive to Asda, nothing special just so I could get some fresh air, but I stayed in the car I didn't want to get to get out.

I felt okay once the morning was out the way, in the afternoon the inside of my mouth was quite sore and the reason why I went asda was to get some more paracetamol and ibuprofen. For lunch I had a really nice roast chicken flavored pasta and was so nice, it's another one of the mug pasta foods so it was small and easier to eat. I have been told I seem more brighter and happier although it still hurts to smile! And I'm hoping the sleep is a lot better coming on too day 15.

First appointment with orthodontist day 8

So on 15th July, I saw my orthodontist for the first time in nearly a month. This was my first check up and my orthodontist took out the elastics that was holding my jaw shut to guide my teeth to bite in the correct place because he needed to change them. He asked me if I had been changing them myself, (obviously I said no) because I was not aware but he said that's fine because I wasn't supposed to anyway. My top lip was so sore that I found it so painful when he moved it up to take off the elastics.

I asked my orthodontist when it would be okay for me to lay down, like if there was a specific set time. He recommended to start now or when I am comfortable which is so good to hear.

We ended up not putting elastics on this week as I was struggling with them which was such a nice feeling, my jaw felt so free which was cool. It also feels quite loose because I am so used to having it held shut with elastics. I was lucky to have elastics and to not have my jaw wired together (my surgeon explained that it is only wired together if during the surgery, when they split the jaw and it doesn't go completely smoothly they wire it together so it does not happen very often).

My orthodontist said I could start easing off the codine that I take as part of my meds which is so good to hear as it had to be the most disgusting one out of them all. I take liquid paracetamol, ibuprofen, codine and have an antiseptic mouthwash (as I cannot brush my teeth). Although my orthodontist told me that now my elastics have come off for a week to try and brush my teeth. Then when I get my elastics back that I will need to change them myself - no pressure ha!

Build up & First week

I am 17 years old, and I have had the double jaw surgery on the 7th July 2015.

Since I was about seven/eight years old I found out then later in my life I will need a jaw surgery, this did not really bother me as I was so young I didn't really understand why I needed it. Growing older, it became more clear that I had an under bite.

I met my surgeon when I was 15 years old so I would have been in year 10 at school, my surgeon explained what the surgery would consist of and used a model of a skull too demonstrate the surgery. Being so early for the surgery they could not predict what age I would be when it would be done and gave me the mark of me being 18 years old when the process will go through as my jaw could still grow and I still had not had braces and the braces would move my jaw out more.

I eventually got my top brace in November 2013, and got my bottom brace is May 2014. I also needed two teeth removed from my top jaw as it was too crowded to keep these two teeth in my mouth.

I got the impression that my brace would be off for the operation but turned out it would stay on whilst the process would go through (I still have it on now).

After waiting so long to know when this surgery would happen I finally got a date confirmed for the surgery to be on the 7th July 2015. The nerves kicked in as I realized it was actually reality and it was definitely going to happen. I was given an appointment card which consisted off just under ten appointments of which i had three before my surgery and a few after the surgery too and the first one was on June 4th. I also had to have a pre op which was to make sure I am 100% healthy for the surgery.

DAY BEFORE SURGERY:

Of course I was really nervous and it had not kicked in that it was the next day, I had friends around me which helped me keep my mind off it. My last proper meal of solid food was pizza and I was only allowed to eat up until midnight but I stopped eating at 9pm, I was allowed to drink tea/coffee/water until 6am.

SURGERY DAY & DAY AFTER:

I had to be at the hospital for 7am so I could be admitted, I had to fill in a form and was told I was first on the list and I would be seen from 8:30am and after that, this made me incredibly nervous and I kept panicking about it as I have wanted it for so long and I realized that this day will change me completely.

I went in about 9:45 am and I was out of the surgery by 13:15 pm. I felt very sick, my face was so numb and all I could taste was blood. They also took out all four of my wisdom teeth. At this point I wasn't extremely swollen and pain had not kicked in but I did feel very hungry. I had to spend one night in hospital and was on morphine which made me feel very sick and tired. I tried to get up to go toilet but got very dizzy and ended up throwing up blood three times and the elastic that kept my jaw shut together snapped but I was told this was normal. Eventually I got some sleep and was a lot more swollen the next morning and attempted eating some milky porridge which was difficult, I was then  taken for an x-ray and then to my orthodontist downstairs, she put two elastics on my brace to keep my jaw mostly shut but I can open it if need be. I had some mash and ice cream for lunch which was a lot more manageable and also managed to walk to the toilet without feeling sick or faint. I was given pain killers and then discharged later that day.

FIRST NIGHT HOME:

My nose was incredibly blocked and swollen filled with dry blood this made it very difficult to breathe and irritating. Sleeping was also very difficult as I had to be sitting up to reduce bleeding and swelling. I very much had to be 'babied' by my family as it was difficult to do a lot of stuff on my own. I woke up about 9:30 am but had woke up a few times in the night as I needed to change my ice packs around my face as they got so warm, I also had hot and cold flushes but only had the window open as using fans dried out my skin and lips.

TWO DAYS AFTER SURGERY:

The swelling was so much worse, I had a bath and felt more refreshed but more pain kicked in which made it more difficult to handle. My nose was still blocked with dry blood (not allowed to blow). Sleeping was still such a task and being comfortable in general. I tried to drink as much water as possible and constantly put vaseline on my lips. I could start to feel the stitches in my mouth and the gaps from my wisdom teeth. I also decided to sit outside for about 20 minutes to get some fresh air.

DAY THREE:

I was told this would be the worst day for pain/swelling and discomfort, it was difficult but had no idea what to really expect. I kept getting hot and cold flushes and tried to distract myself by watching films, I started to get fed up by the routine of pain, medication, swelling, sitting there doing nothing and so on.

DAY FOUR:

The sleep from the night before was horrific as it was so painful, I also woke up extremely early and was in so much pain. I felt very sick and felt so boiling hot and just wanted to give up there and then as I started getting sick of it all. I realized that my 'day four' was what the doctors told me 'day three' would be. I did not talk as much on day four as I noticed that is probably what affected it so much with the pain, I also avoided eating as much as I really could not be bothered with the pain. I had been told by my family that the swelling had gone down a lot and I noticed bruising on my cheeks.

DAY 5:

Coming up to the one week mark! still so long to go though! On day 5, quite a lot of swelling had come down but bruising showed up on my cheeks a lot more and almost started on one cheek, flowed down onto my chin and neck and then up onto the other cheek. I slept a lot more on this day too. I woke up about 8am from noisy neighbors - typical! and I took my meds. I then fell back asleep till about 10:30 am, I walked around a little and felt a little sick so I went back to bed and fell back asleep till 12 pm noon. When I went downstairs my mum said that I looked a lot more brighter and better as I had more sleep and the swelling went down a lot more. I had chicken noodle soup (pretty much the only soup I like) and later around 2pm my dad took me out for a drive for a change of scenery and to get some fresh air which was nice to get out of 'staring at the same four walls' scene. I had an hour nap when I returned home as I felt so worn out - so unfit since this surgery! I stayed in bed and had 'dinner' in bed, I had pastina which is literally tiny pastina and it was put in the blender to make it a little more easier. I tried eating with a big spoon (stupid mistake) and found I was opening my jaw too much and although it didn't hurt at the time I knew I would pay for it the next morning so I decided to get a small spoon and a small plastic spoon to help, it just dried up by the time I did this which made it harder to eat the food so I left it. I did not eat much this day at all which was stupid. This day my lips were also extremely dry. I kept trying to put on vaseline but it would dry out really quick. I was reading a website seeing some tips for recovery and saw 'Dry skin and vitamin A+D original ointment' I have kept this in mind but am currently using baby oil which helps slightly and does not make my lips as dry in my sleep.

DAY 6:

In one day it would have been a week since I had my surgery. This has been an incredibly tough week, anyone who has already gone through this process I cannot wait till I can say the recovery is over! So on day 6, I had a rubbish sleep the night before coming onto day 6 and I woke up at 8 am -again! & I did not manage to get back to sleep because of my noisy neighbors - AGAIN?! some of them can be so inconsiderate drilling and building at these early hours! I had chicken noodle soup also again (living life on the edge), and had my meds as soon as I woke up. With the amount of water I have been drinking, I constantly need to wee but I am trying to keep myself as hydrated as possible. Also, when I sleep my nose becomes blocked from the blood and have to breathe through my mouth - (I've always preferred breathing through my nose) which is irritating as it majorly dries out my mouth. Also with still having to sleep sitting up does not make it anymore comfortable! I miss laying down :( I cannot wait for the day when my doctor says it is okay for me to lay down completely. Ever tried sleeping whilst sitting up? try it. Ever been told it's impossible to sleep sitting up? I once thought this, it is not impossible but it's not comfortable i'll warn you on that! For my lips my mum came home and bought me 'Blistex Relief Cream' it's good for dry lips! When I put it on it made my lips feel cooler which was nice and refreshing! - speaking of refreshing I am missing brushing my teeth! Using mouthwash everyday does not completely help and it is not the same feeling!

On day 6, my teeth felt very weak particularly my bottom set of teeth. It was like a very annoying feeling as if my braces had been tightened - have not missed that. My top lip also felt like it kept sticking to my brace and it was really hurting the stitches. All I wanted to do at this point was to just sleep.

DAY 7: ONE WEEK!

I would say 'it has gone so fast' but that would be lying. The one who is in pain or going through the process feels like it takes ages where as it is so fast for everybody around them. Anyways, so I had a bit of a better sleep night 6 to day 7, I woke up once in the night to adjust my head and have some water, then I woke up about 7:30 am and fell back asleep till 9 am, mum then came in and had my morning meds for me, I did feel a bit 'crappy' this morning, I decided it was a good idea to talk a lot of the evening of day 6 and payed for it this morning. After I took my meds, I sat there on my phone and chilled out. Eventually the sleepy mode came back on me (as my meds make me incredibly sleepy) I fell asleep about 11 am woke up a few times but eventually fully woke up at 1 pm, I still felt so tired but I had some soup as I had not had anything to 'eat' (I say eat but its more drinking I guess if it's liquid haha) yet. So I had soup - no surprise there. I had the television off and have tried not to talk loads as I do not really want to have the same pain I had yesterday. Talking takes up a lot of energy and makes you very tired after a while, it will just hit you randomly. When I have baths, I feel so much better afterwards even though I do not do much as it is. I tend not to have showers as I have been advised not too as of the pressure of the water going near my jaw, also I can still be dizzy when I stand up which would not be handy in a shower.

Numbness:

Chin: Middle of my chin is completely numb but if I tap it, I know I'm tapping my chin, Sometimes the right side of my chin across my jawline does not feel as numb but today it does, my left side always feels numb. My bottom lip is numb in a way but I feel it a lot more if I touch it and gives a tingly sensation when I do touch it. My actual top lip is the same sensation as the bottom lip but just on top of my lips, under my nose is more numb on the right side and feels more bruised on the left side. My right cheek is numb in places but I get this weird tingly sensation if I stroke my fingers across my cheek (maybe I might be lucky and get feeling back quicker), the left cheek is kind of the same but not as much feeling. My nose is numb and I hate this feeling of a numb nose and dry nostrils, it feels tight on my nose. Under my left eye is not so numb to be honest but under my right eye is still fairly numb and it feels horrible.

Sore lips:

So as the day went on by, my lips was just so swollen and dry. Remember that Vitamin A+D ointment I was recommended? My mum ordered it the day before and it came on day 7, it works a treat, I will leave a link so you can find it. It is great and I would definitely recommend it. It stays on your lips longer unlike the vaseline.
